In Memory - Jame Henry Monti

Apr. 21, 1939 - Mar. 9, 2015 James Henry Monti died Monday, March 9, following complications from heart surgery.

Jim was born on April 21, 1939, the oldest child of Henry and Josephine Monti. He grew up in the Fountain Heights neighborhood of Birmingham, attending St. Paul's Catholic Church and Elementary School and John Carroll High School, where he played on the varsity basketball team for Coach Wheeler Flemming. He graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in business administration.

During the Berlin crisis of 1961-1962 he was deployed with the Alabama Air National Guard tactical reconnaissance command at Dreux Air Force Base, France.

He was a retired sales representative for Quality Press. Jim's great love in life was his family, including his wife of 54 years, Mary Jo; his three sons, Michael, Patrick, and Stephen Monti; his daughter-in-law Cindy Monti; and granddaughters Katie and Brooke Monti. He is also survived by his sister, Emily Monti Hooks; brothers, John and Joe Monti; three sisters-in-law and six nieces and nephews.

Jim was an avid gardener and lover of sports, especially Alabama football and baseball. He was a longtime member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Hoover.

Visitation will be at St. Peter's (2061 Patton Chapel Road) at noon on Thursday, March 12, followed by the funeral Mass at 1 p.m. A reception will follow the service.
